GedGap, RootsMagic 7 Essentials and Ancestry – Additional Thoughts

from Paul, February 6 2018

After using GedGap as a genealogy notepad and research tool with RootsMagic 7 Essentials and Ancestry for some time, I thought I would update this blog with some additional thoughts.

In Ancestry, I will initially ignore and then not ignore hints that I would like to add at some later stage to my tree, This places them as undecided or pending status.

Obviously, hints that I already have added the source or it does not provide any additional insight, I simply ignore.

In RootsMagic 7 Essentials, these appear as follows in WebHints (with pending or undecided shown with a question mark icon and ignored with a cross icon);

My GedGap research notes shows that I have added one source but need to gather some citation material (parish reference number) plus the URL and image for the source. In additional, I need to review some birth (or christening) and baptism sources.

Please note; As author of the GedGap tool, this post is factual on the functionality of the GedGap tool but may contain bias given the relationship of the author of this blog entry and the tool being reviewed.
